Each Monday during the NHL season, Rob Mixer takes Andrew Beck Jersey a look at the biggest storylines from the hockey week that was. And boy are they winning them. Seemingly forgotten earlier in the season and a quiet non-player at the trade deadline the Panthers are flying up the Eastern Conference standings and are an odds-on favorite to get into the postseason. Yes, thats right, the Panthers. And its their collection of young stars pushing them forward and squarely into the mix, just as theyd planned when a sembling this group of talented kids. First-year head coach Bob Boughner has done a solid job, too. things could have spiraled out of control early for the Panthers. Nothing seemed to be clicking. They had injuries to key players including No. 1 goaltender Roberto Luongo, but the Panthers have another de facto starting goaltender right behind him in James Reimer. As their schedule thinned out and the games in hand started to accumulate, the Panthers started to get their act together. How about their timing? As the Eastern Conference playoff picture coincidentally began to Jacob Bobenmoyer Jersey condense and more teams became players, the Panthers found themselves in Grade A position to make a run. Barkov has 10 points during whats now a six-game points streak, and the aforementioned Dadonov has nine goals over his last 11. "We're playing our best hockey of the year at the right time," Luongo said postgame. No kidding. Next up for the Panthers: a date with in-state rival Tampa Bay on Tuesday night at Amalie Arena. The Blue Jackets 4-2 win in San Jose on Sunday, coupled with Floridas six-game streak, have both teams breathing down New Jerseys neck. Columbus is three points back, Florida four (and with three games in hand) while the Devils have dropped three straight and, later this week, embark on a brutal six-game road trip out west. If not for Taylor Hall and his Hart Trophy-caliber season, the Devils might be in serious trouble Justin Simmons Jersey . As it stands, theyre still in decent shape, but if this skid carries on any longer, theyre in danger of getting pa sed. |
