Some might call this poor sportsmanship or a cheap play. Others might prefer to call it gamesmanship. I choose to go with sound Josh Reddick Jersey strategy and playing the odds.Here we see Bridgeport Sound Tigers goalie David Leggio facing every goalies worst nightmare in an AHL game on Sunday night: a 2-on-0 rush after a neutral zone turnover by his teammates while they were on the power play. Instead of giving the Springfield Falcons an opportunity to score on the rush, Leggio decided to turn around and intentionally throw the net off its moorings, dislodging it and bringing the Lance McCullers Jersey play to a stop.Forget for a moment that Springfield botched the 2-on-0 anyway. It's a bold play.The penalty for such a strategy was the officials awarding Springfield a Carlos Lee Jersey penalty shot, which gave Leggio more of a fighting chance to make a save because let's face it, stopping guy on a breakaway is much better play for a goalie than trying to worry about two players coming in at him uncontested. And Leggio did, in fact, make the save, stopping Dany Tyrell's penalty shot attempt.In the end, George Springer Jersey though, Leggio's bold strategy did not end up paying off as the Sound Tigers lost, 4-3, snapping what had been a four-game point streak.Leggio, 30, an undrafted goalie out of Clarkson University, has yet to play in the NHL and has spent the past the past Blank Jersey eight seasons of his pro career bouncing from team-to-team in the ECHL and AHL. |
